2017 was a splendid year in the glitzy world of Bollywood, as far as beauty goes. Our favourite crop of Bollywood stars shone, shimmered and sparkled to reach the top of our beauty countdown list in the year that was. While you'll undoubtedly see some of your trusted favourites in the list, you'll also be thrilled to see a few new faces - all of whom have shown off spectacular makeup and fabulous tresses in 2017. Here's our pick of Bollywood's dazzling best.
1. Bhumi Pednekar
Bhumi made a powerful entry into Bollywood, and her ability to make heads turn seems to have extended to her choice of makeup. We loved seeing Bhumi sporting smokey eyes, nude lips and a powerful gaze through 2017. Wonder what she has in store for us in 2018.
2. Kareena Kapoor Khan
Can any beauty icon list about Bollywood be complete without Bebo? If there's one woman who wears glam like she is to the manner born, it's Kareena Kapoor Khan. With every appearance she makes, be it at the airport or on the red carpet, Kareena always looks refined, groomed and on-point. Doesn't hurt to have cheekbones so sharp, they could cut glass.
3. Alia Bhatt
The young star has come a long way from her days of high ponytails and glossy lips. These days, Alia is all about sophisticated yet age-appropriate makeup. Just like her acting chops, Alia's beauty game has grown by leaps and bounds. We can't wait to see more of Bollywood's youngest belle.
4. Kriti Sanon
What differentiates Kriti's beauty choices from the rest of her Bolluywood contemporaries is her fantastic hairstyling. From sleek curls to braided ponytails, Kriti is one of the rare B-towners who never treats her tresses like an afterthought.
5. Katrina Kaif
If there's one leading lady who can be credited with redefining the easy-breezy chic vibe, it's Katrina Kaif. With her effortlessly messy waves, sun-kissed skin and glossy pout, she's our beauty crush, whether she's on a magazine cover or on the sets.
6. Pooja Hedge
Among all the regulars, Pooja is a pleasant addition to this list. Post her largely forgettable Bollywood debut opposite Hrithik Roshan in Mohenjo Daro, she has made it a point to be remembered for her perfect, poised and graceful style on the red carpet. Usually, that means dramatic but deep hues for the eyes, bold brows and the slicked back wet hair that's steadily become her trademark hairstyle.
7. Deepika Padukone
It wouldn't be a beauty roundup without Deepika, right? She's one leading lady who balances meticulous minimal makeup without going even a hair overboard. Deepika's usual companions are groomed brows, nude lips and winged eyes, which complement both her Indian and Western looks to perfection.
8. Aditi Rao Hydari
2017 was the year that Aditi really came into her own in the beauty department. So along with her flawless skin and those brown doe eyes, she's made friends with delicately stained lips, smoked out eyes and pulled back buns. Aditi, you've got our seal of approval.
9. Sonam Kapoor
No surprises here at all. Bollywood's resident fashionista, Sonam Kapoor, makes sure to complement every ensemble of hers with a glorious beauty look, all while pushing the makeup bar a little higher each time. Foil eyes, shimmery lips and sleek updos were just some of Sonam's beauty companions in 2017, all of which we couldn't get enough of.
10. Diana Penty
She might not exactly be setting the cash registers at the box office ringing, but Diana's beauty choices have definitely stolen our hearts this year. With every appearance, she created the perfect contrast by emphasising her dainty features with bold looks like coloured smokey eyes and wine-toned lips, cinching her place on our beauty icons list this year.
11. Ranveer Singh - Surprised?
Don't Be And last, but most certainly not the least, is Ranveer Singh. While the actor has never been one to shy away from experimenting with his look, this year he seems to have pulled out all stops, not just blurring but completely erasing the line between genders. While he's known for his gender-bending dressing style, in 2017, he shot for a campaign in cornrows, dreadlocks, a curled 'stache, piercing white contacts, not to mention the scoopfuls of kajal he's periodically seen sporting. All of which made us do a double take, but in the best way possible. A man whose masculinity doesn't make him shy away from makeup? Yes, please.
