The wedding season has arrived right on time and with it, the anticipated day for so many couples. Women especially place tremendous importance on their wedding day appearance, definitely more than their male counterparts. While it's their makeup of the day that usually finds itself in the spotlight, there's a lot to be said about hair too. Wedding day tresses are often bundled in an updo or strung with flowers in a braid so it doesn't get as much attention in the beauty sphere. That's changing today. Brides are opting for lighter, looser hairstyles that showcase their natural texture without drastically changing their look or putting their locks under scalding heat treatments. Which is why haircare in the run up to the wedding day, on the D-day itself and after it is so important. Providing professional advice on the topic is Mr. Sameer Hamdare, Zonal Technical Manager at Streax Professional and Melroy Dickson, General Manager of Education, MATRIX and Cheryl's who come armed with years of haircare expertise.
Avoid These Common Haircare Mistakes
Mistakes are found a dime a dozen, especially for brides during the frantic time. Says Melroy, "People are so busy during the wedding season that they often overlook a few things, such as using heat protection products before styling. If they opt for permanent texture services like straightening, perming or curling beforehand, styling can be very difficult for the big day."
While the traditional Indian bride is often attached to her flowing tresses, that can sometimes be a problem. He confirms, "People love long hair but if they refuse to trim it, they don't realise that the dry ends take away from the overall look."
Simple Hairstyling For The Bride
Although complex knots and tightly rolled braids are commonly worn by brides, they aren't a compulsion. Fashion for the wedding is finding lighter, more comfortable silhouettes and bridal hairstyles aren't far behind either. "People often underestimate the effect of a simple braid and a pony that could completely change the look. For example, a low pony with a sleek mid-parting, or a zig-zag parting could do wonders," informs Melroy.
Expert Haircare Tips You Shouldn't Miss
Everyone admires well-styled tresses on the wedding day but for that to even be possible, the right haircare tips and a disciplined routine are of highest importance. Sameer comes to the rescue with his expert tips to follow for healthy, happy hair on the big day and advises, "Before styling, never skip a good heat protector product like serum or spray. Ensure you always use a cleansing shampoo after the event. This is because a lot of product is used when styling hair. A cleansing shampoo will remove all the build-up effectively. Don't forget to deeply condition your hair after every styling session as it will retain the lost moisture and help strengthen hair."
If heat styling is absolutely necessary, Sameer says, "Use a low temperature to style your hair. Opt for blow-drying the hair rather than ironing or tonging as blow dryer requires low temperatures to dry and style while ironing and crimping needs higher temperatures."
