Hair care tips and advice may be available in abundance but you cannot follow it blindly if you have curly hair. Agnes Chen, National Technical Head at Streax Professional shares tips one actually needs to know about maintaining gorgeous curls and keeping the hair type healthy.

Curls need much more moisture as compared to other hair types as the natural oil produced from the scalp doesn't reach the hair; which is the reason curly hair is more frizzy, tangled and rough. It should be considered as a habit to deep condition your curls when bathing or using a leave-in conditioner after. Your hair care products should be a little heavier in texture to ensure extra nourishment.
Don't start brushing your hair from roots or even from the middle of your hair; else you're begging for breakage and split ends. Brush your hair from the ends and gently go upwards to your roots with a wide-toothed comb. That's how your curly hair should be treated.
Deep condition your hair with oil-based conditioners such as coconut oil, argan oil etc. The same conditioner you can also use as a hair mask and let it sit for 10-15 mins and wash it off thoroughly. This method will not only give you soft and smooth curls but also prevent frizz.
Curly hair is sensitive and can be damaged easily with excessive heated tools and styling products. Avoid heating tools like blow dryers and flat irons too often to protect curls from getting damaged.
Care for your curls before going to sleep so that you do not wake up with tangled hair. Always keep it in place in a pineapple bun by loosely securing it on the top of your head. If you have short hair, you can also secure your curls with a satin hair wrap.
