But it doesn't have to stay that way, you know. With the right hair care tips and tricks, it's possible to treat your oily scalp and in turn, your limp, greasy hair.
1. Trust The Right Hair Care Duo
When your scalp is oily and your hair limp, it's important to find the right shampoo that will do an efficient job of cleansing and nourishing without stripping it of its natural sebum. Says hairstylist Zahabia Lacewalla, "With an oily scalp, the basic thing that is important is to choose a good shampoo that removes oil and volumizes the hair." A good clarifying shampoo is ideal as it will do just that and leave the hair healthy. Although a conditioner may seem unnecessary, use it on alternate days and keep it far from the roots when applying.
2. Don't Overwash
No, you didn't hear us wrong! Washing and washing some more can seem like a solution for a greasy scalp but unfortunately, that will do more harm than good. It will unduly remove the natural sebum which will cause the scalp to produce more oil and make it greasier. Combat this by washing on alternate days while rubbing your scalp gently with your fingertips.
3. Get Curly
If straightened hair is your hairdo of choice, it might be time to change things up. With an already oily scalp, straight hair can look flat and limp. What you need is volume and bounce in the form of curls and waves. Either opt for a salt spray to give your hair texture or get the curling tong out to give your hair luscious curls.
4. Trust Dry Shampoo
On days when your scalp feels itchy and looks flat, don't head to the shower to wash it, just turn to dry shampoo. The magic of dry shampoo is that it will soak up excess oil, boost volume and lend the hair a pleasant fragrance. So even if you haven't washed your hair in a day or two, dry shampoo is your cheat to get through another day.
