From the sea of actors in Bollywood today, there's just something about Yami Gautam that makes her stand out. Whether you write it down to the films she signs or her brand new 'do, she knows how to make an impact. Between shoots and her return from Serbia, we spoke exclusively to Yami about what's on her dresser this season. The stylish actress, whose movies Batti Gul Meter Chalu and Uri are scheduled to release this year, shares some of her most trusted beauty picks and talks about her delightfully short hairdo we can't stop raving about.
Swirlster: So Yami, was it a movie role that compelled you to cut your hair short or just the need to try a new look?
Yami Gautam: It was to get a new look for a role. As actors, experimenting with our looks is necessary to fit the bill of a character. When I signed Uri, our director Aditya and stylist Rohit started discussions during which I jumped at the idea of short hair and pushed for chopping it rather than using a wig. It was my way of overcoming a fear of never having cut my hair so short since I was 5 years old.
Swirlster: How do you manage to maintain your short hair in the monsoon?
Yami Gautam: Thankfully, my hair doesn't frizz up with humidity. But a mild shampoo and less- than-usual amount of conditioner does help to keep my hair going. And of course, a good oil champi is perfect for all seasons.
Swirlster: What are 3 hair products that work wonders for your hair?
Yami Gautam: I love using a heat treatment spray, almond oil and a hair pack made of methi seeds and aloe vera with a little bit of yogurt.
Swirlster: When caring for your skin, what motto do you follow?
Yami Gautam: I believe that you must always moisturize your skin, use a sunscreen when outside and remove your make up before you sleep. Your skin needs to relax too, you know.
Swirlster: What's the biggest beauty problem that you face during the rains and how you fix it?
Yami Gautam: Sometimes, my hair gets a bit wet in the rain and it isn't fun to wash it every day. To fix it, dry shampoo has become my go-to as it stops limpness easily and adds volume. It's an easy and quick one day fix.
Swirlster: When it's raining, what is your easy, on-the-go hairstyle?
Yami Gautam: I'd have to say no major styling; just a nice messy texture for my hair which will look nice and also survive the humidity.
Swirlster: This monsoon, what are 3 makeup products that you're reaching out for?
Yami Gautam: For me, less is more in terms of make up in the monsoon. So it would have to be a tint for dewy cheeks, a nude pink matte lipstick and waterproof mascara.
Swirlster: Who is your celebrity beauty inspiration?
Yami Gautam: I love the everyday looks that Gigi Hadid wears - she's flawless in terms of skin, hair and the makeup. For inspiration, it's always a mix of so many beautiful ladies out there.
