Whether it's your sister's wedding, best friend's or just an acquaintance's - there are a few things that are best kept to yourself before and during the wedding. You may believe that 'honesty is the best policy', but hours before someone's wedding, or worse, once their wedding is in procession, saying what's really on your mind might not be the best strategy if it can potentially give them jitters and cause anxiety. Weddings are meant to be full of fun, happiness and love; but with a few wrong things said here and there, weddings really can take an ugly turn. Now you may be well above such behaviour, but it's easier than you think to say something without actually giving it a thought, especially when it's the wedding of someone you're close to.
Friends, family, this guide is especially for you. Please refrain from saying the following things to the bride or groom on their wedding day.

"Your outfit is so...you"
Your job as someone who is close to the couple getting married is to make them feel good about themselves. Telling them their outfit "fits their personality" or is "right only for them" is not actually a compliment. You may not love the outfit that they've chosen and you may never opt for something like that for yourself, but lie if you must and tell them how much you love it. Seriously, brides and grooms are often very sensitive. You don't want to say anything that could make them feel unsure or under confident on their special day.
"If it were my wedding..."
Okay stop right there, because as harsh as it may sound, it is not your wedding. You're there to attend someone else's wedding ceremony. Making it about yourself and telling them what you would have done differently is just not in good taste. If you have nothing good to say about their wedding and make their day better, say nothing.
"What a sweet little budget wedding"
Weddings are expensive; period. Life doesn't stop after a wedding - people have rent to pay amongst life's other necessities. They didn't spend all that time and effort planning their special day for you to come and tell them that the wedding isn't up to your taste or what you expected. Don't comment on the budget, don't talk about how much they spent. Come, attend, have fun and wish the couple the best. It really is that simple.
