First dates can be make or break.
Let's just get that out of the way first. Why? Because considering how short of time we all are anyway, how many of us will actually give a stranger the benefit of doubt and more of our precious hours? Okay, I may be exaggerating a little bit but you get the drift.
But either way, we should be on our best behavior, because not only is it good manners to do so but also necessary considering you have romantic interest in this person. If everything goes right, they might be the one who end up spending countless meals, movies and moments with.
So here are a few things you should keep in mind when you are on your first date.
Keep your phone very very far away. Like, very
You know what's not fun? When you are talking about something and the other person is uninterested because they are on their phone. Right? Now flip the situation. See my point?
Don't be the only one talking
There is radio for that. The idea is for both people to get to know each other, and that only happens when both of you actively listen as well. Don't monopolise the conversation
Don't impose your ideas and thoughts
You know exactly what I am talking about. Whether you are right-wing, left-wing, vegetarian, non-vegetarian, believer, atheist...whatever, don't try and impose those ideologies on the other person. You are on a date, not a recruitment camp
Don't push for intimacy
Just. Don't. Be. That. Creep. You will be immortalized as one of their worst date experiences or gossip related at every party ever. Or both
Overshare? No
Take it slow. Your date isn't your therapist. You have to have a conversation, not give them a monologue about your entire life. And don't share your dukh and problems just yet.
Don't look unkempt
Looking unattractive isn't an option, it is shoddy and disrespectful. Makes the other person think you aren't even bothered about what you are doing, and that is not something you want to give off.
Don't pry
If the other person wants to share something, they will do so on their own. Don't frisk for more information because you are curious. Oh, and needless to say, do NOT talk about their exes. Or your exes. No. Just, no.
Don't expect the other person to take the check
If they offer, that is a different thing but you must always offer to split the bill.
Don't have a roving eye
The person are spending time with for now is the one opposite you, get to know them. Check THEM out, not other people. It's rude, and truth be told, quite cheap.
Don't forget your manners
Don't dig your nose. Or belch. Or eat with your mouth open. And other things that are worse.
Don't leave 'em hanging after
When the night is over, it is always nice to leave the person a text thanking them for their time and sliding in that you had a fun night. If not, well let them know that eventually as well. Communication keeps it clear.
