Autumn is knocking on our wardrobe doors - it's time to bring out the warm-coloured clothes and the textured fabrics. It is also time to get our autumn trends in order. And speaking of autumn, one trend that never goes out of style is layering. From the ramp to the streets, layering is one of the most chic and versatile trends that you can rock this season. Not only is it easy to pull off, it is also a trend that you can experiment a lot with. Here are some layering tips to keep in mind.
Pick a tone
If you are new to the layering trend, the easiest way to go about it is to choose individual pieces that match a single colour tone. If you are confident about your matching skills, you can try mixing up colours and add contrasting pieces to your outfit. However, make sure the contrasting colours complement each other.
Layer thin to thick
The idea behind layering is not just to look rad but to also serve a practical purpose. You layer so that you can take off a piece when you move between different temperatures. Therefore, make sure you wear the thinnest layer inside (cotton shirts, tees) and the thickest outside (khadi jacket, cotton shrug). Also, make sure each piece of clothing you wear looks good all by itself as much as it complements the entire look.
Once you are comfortable matching and mixing block colours, you can start with adding patterns and prints to your autumn outfits. Let the base still be a solid colour and go on to add a printed scarf. If you want to level up, choose complementary and contrasting prints, with the busiest pattern being the top layer.
