It was a starry end to Amazon India Week - Autumn Winter ' 18 Day one.
No, we aren't saying that just for effect. It was quite literally a starry night. A ramp that was covered in silver glitter, a background that would have made you feel that you have crossed over to a far away galaxy in space.
And then there was Vaani Kapoor, right in the beginning...walking for Gauri & Nainika. First.
Why I am saying "first"? Because not just was it a starry night (decor and celebs) but it was also the first time two designers came and showcased their collection in one show...together.
Picture this: Ashish N. Soni's dapper men in white tie, crisp jacquard suits, and side bar pants walking next to Gauri & Nainika's ladies in flowing tulle, organza gowns that can a couturier's heart skip many beats.
It was prom night meets Met Gala. And the designers agreed.
"It was a unique idea and we all were very excited about it. The idea was to bring to life a collection that was sophisticated and classy," said Ashish Soni.
"It is amazing how everything came together and simply fit. The monotones, the dresses with the white tie and the suits...it was a powerful show," said Nainika.
The show was a powerful indeed. Playing to the tunes of James Bond and Adele's Skyfall, it was a show of power couple clothes made in in rich, luxurious fabrics.
"Our girls were Bond girls, a figure of power, style and absolute elegance," added Gauri.
If we go by the trends that we have seen in the ramp up until now, monochrones seem to be in for next Autumn - Samant Chauhan and later Abraham & Thakore also showcased collections which were high on singular tones.
"Silver is the new rage," said Ashish.
When asked where she will like to wear the attires she donned on the ramp today, "Oscars!" the Befikre actress Vaani Kapoor's responded with a laugh. She closed the show, wearing an Ashish Soni creation: a pantsuit with a train.
"I am honored to have been a part of this show - I walked for two designers in one show. And both are personal favorites," said Vaani.
When it comes to couture dresses and sharp, interesting suits, no one does it like the two designers who have set history tonight, together.
And boy are we happy that we stayed late!
