We all have jewellery lying lifelessly in the back of our closets. Fret not, here are some easy cleaning hacks that can make those baubles look absolutely new again.
You'll require a few items. Don't worry, you'll find everything in your kitchen.
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 teaspoon liquid dish soap
- 1 tablespoon baking soda
- 1 cup of hot water
- Some aluminium foil
- Paper towel
- Old toothbrush
- 2 bowls
Line a bowl with aluminium foil. Mix the salt, soap and the baking soda. Add some water and let the concoction fizzle a little. Place your jewellery in the liquid for 10 minutes. Remove your jewellery and scrub the minute areas with a toothbrush. Rinse and pat dry with a towel.
This mixture can be used for all kinds of pure jewellery - gold, silver, gems, pearls. It's absolutely safe and can be done over and over.
2. Costume/Fashion Jewellery
Extend the life of your everyday 'fashion' jewellery that turns black way too easily with tomato ketchup. Yes, you read that right. Tomato ketchup! Pour some ketchup on the jewellery and let it be for 20 minutes. Scrub the jewellery with a toothbrush. Rinse and pat dry. Toothpaste can be used in place of ketchup as well.
To never let your jewellery turn black again, apply some clear nail polish on it and then blow dry it. Or you can even make use of acrylic paint (clear). Spray all over your earrings, necklaces, and rings. Voila!
3. Gold-plated jewellery
This one is the simplest of all. Just wash your gold plated jewellery with an extremely mild soap and lukewarm water. Reminder: To make your jewellery last longer, always spray your perfume or hairspray before you accessorise!
Now you don't have to throw out those gorgeous baubles that you might have spent a bomb on - or even the ones you picked up dirt cheap. The more, the merrier, right?
