Whether or not there are award functions and movie promotions on hand, you can trust Bollywood to gather in their finery. Last night was no different as Bollywood's most stylish were in attendance for designer Manish Malhotra's latest collection showcase. Everyone looked plenty fabulous and in the midst of it all, we spotted a fashion trend in the making. Since Indian wear isn't witness to frequent experimentation, this one was a pleasant surprise.
The trend in question is the statement blouse. An irreplaceable part of most Indian wear, the blouse has been relegated to a modest cover up. Finally it's set to be a sizzling ethnic wear trend. Expect to see more detailing, embellishment and cutouts so that the blouse isn't just another element in a look but the statement-maker in itself like the drape or dupatta.
First to sport it was Bollywood newbie slash stylista Janhvi Kapoor. Fresh off the boat from her debut, she wore a silver and turquoise toned lehenga. In a rare turn for Indian wear, Janhvi opted for a 'naked' blouse, a takeaway from the world famous naked dress trend. Silver sequined embroidery covered her shoulders and chest while skin toned sheer fabric was responsible for its invisible appearance.
Next up was Athiya Shetty. The actress wore a pretty peach toned layered skirt with a shimmering blouse. With cold shoulder cutouts and sheer detail, Athiya's blouse lent the look with much-needed oomph.
Finally, there was Sara Ali Khan. A paparazzi favourite even before her first Bollywood movie, Sara wore a muted olive lehenga with gold embroidery over the skirt. However, it was her ribbed blouse with the plunging neckline that stole the show entirely.
For your next Indian wear look, would you wear the statement blouse like these ladies? Tell us in the comments.
