In an exclusive conversation with us, designer Anamika Khanna tells us what to expect from her showcase.
Swirlster: What inspired the creation of your upcoming collection at Lakme Fashion Week?
Anamika Khanna: Taking from Lakme Fashion Week’s theme of ‘Reinventing Nudes’, my collection is set to be diverse and very versatile. The inspiration behind it is millennials, who are free-thinkers that wear their style their own way and their attitude on their sleeves.
Swirlster: Have you incorporated any current trends in the collection as well?
Anamika Khanna: There’s plenty of experimentation going on with this collection as well as numerous ideas coming together within it. It’s also set to be very individualistic as making a statement is always in.
Swirlster: How does the location of Bandra fort work in tandem with the showcase of your collection
Anamika Khanna: For my grand finale collection, the location of Bandra fort is so powerful and spectacular. Those qualities translate effortlessly to the clothes and its timeless spirit will be seen in the collection as well.
Swirlster: Are there any finer details we can look forward to in the collection?
Anamika Khanna: From the treatment of the fabric to the smaller details of it to the overall development of the garments, there’s a lot of detailing going on but it’s hard to put into words really. Fashion is often thought of as ostentatious but this collection isn’t; it’s one that everyone can wear with ease.
Swirlster: Being a spring summer collection, what’s the colour palette you’ve chosen?
Anamika Khanna: Although it is spring summer, I’ve made sure that the colours are non-constrictive and free-spirited. In keeping with the theme, there’s lots of nudes, black and brights as part of the showcase.
Swirlster: With the number of celebrity faces that part of the Lakme family, who will be the showstopper for the grand finale?
Anamika Khanna: Kareena Kapoor Khan, she’s going to be the showstopper for the finale at Lakme Fashion Week.
