Another song from the most awaited film of the year, Padmavati is out and boy, we're awestruck. From the set to the costumes, everything in Padmavati is out of the world gorgeous. The song, ghoomar, is making us want to go back to that era just for those ghaghrasandodhnis- and of course the jewellery.
The costumes have been designed by designer duo Rimple and Harpreet Narula.
The video of this song from Padmavati is giving us all sorts of inspiration for the upcoming wedding season. Gota work is definitely not out of trend. Colour blocking is back. Layering was never out. And of course, the choker set with layered necklaces and the matha pattiscan never get too old. We also love how goldjhumkisare making such a comeback. Perhaps it's time we started collecting gold jewellery too! Embroideries were and always remain a big part of Indian wear, but what the duo did was create prints with foil printing, giving it a brocade look.
All the outfits and embroideries were done in Rajasthan with gold and silver metal threads. There's also a blue thread embroidery done creating an extremely vintage effect.
"The garments - ghaghras, kanchalis and odhnas - were aged and treated with various concoctions and materials such as natural dyes, indigo, pomegranate, rose, etc to achieve the natural colors that were prevalent at that time. A lot of pieces underwent tea-staining to give them an earthy, muted and organic feel. Our teams got special prints developed from Sanganer and Bagru for the textiles that were used. Some prints have up to 12 different colors in one motif." say the designer duo on their official Instagram account.
Indian wear without floral patterns is incomplete. And there are plenty of booti designs on Deepika's ghagra. The draping of the odhnas reminds us of typical rajputs. All of these put together is clearly telling us that the influence of the old Rajasthani royals is back in fashion!
You're going to be seeing a lot of beautiful polki jewellery and floral gota patti this wedding season.
The movie releases on December 1 and we can't wait to see the magic Sanjay Leela Bhansali creates with Padmavati.
