We all remember the iconic white chiffon saree that Sridevi wore in the 1989 Yash Chopra movie Chandni, right? It's practically imprinted in my mind, helped define the 'Yash Raj heroine,' and inspires scenes in Bollywood movies even today. And while Sridevi graces us with stylish outfits almost every week now (thank you, Instagram), we still haven't forgotten that saree from Chandni.
And it seems we're not the only ones.
For an event at St Regis in Mumbai recently, Mini Mathur wore a beautiful white organza saree. She posted a photo on her Instagram with this caption: 'When you get to be Chandni version 2.018 thanks to @masabagupta styled by the magicians @who_wore_what_when'.
Here are the photos she posted:
The chalk-white organza saree with a corset is made out of silver textured gota and Masaba mentioned on her Instagram that she had been waiting to see who would wear this saree the way it was meant to worn. It doesn't surprise her - or us - that it was Mini Mathur, what with her eternal love for sarees. Masaba Gupta and Who-Wore-What-When, the stylists of the look, also shared images:
We've always looked forward to the quirks Masaba brings to the table with her designs and we definitely weren't disappointed this time around. The corset worn over the saree might seem weird to some when they think about it but Mini Mathur pulls off the look fabulously. The saree was paired with earrings by Karishma Mehra and the soft, dewy makeup was done by Saba Khan. She was styled for the event by Pranay Jaitly and Shounak Amonkar. Mini Mathur - anchor, presenter and actor - started her career as a model and VJ and is best known for hosting the show Indian Idol. Here are some more pictures of her in sarees - proving her love for them is SO real. (And her collection of sarees is making us seriously envious now.)
