Vidya Balan must surely have been thrilled when Tumhari Sulu received the 'Best Film' award at IIFA this year. With seven nominations for the film, we are sure that Vidya and her team were riding high; she was herself nominated in the 'Best Actress' category for the movie. Well deserved, of course - Tumhari Sulu was a fine mix of emotions, humour and drama. But all of that is something we have come to expect out of films that star Vidya Balan; remember The Dirty Picture, Kahaani? That she is a fine actress is not something to be questioned.
There is another fact that no one can refute - the fact that if there is one person in Bollywood who knows how to rock a saree, it is Vidya Balan. And not just any saree; for Vidya, her sarees seem to be a way of self-expression. She is clearly biased towards Indian handloom (as we should be), and there is a certain earthy, old world charm to her everytime she wears one. In the time of printed sarees, modern drapes, and quirky designs, Vidya shows us that the charm of a classic saree made with Indian design techniques will never really get old.
Recently, for an event, Vidya wore a beautiful red Raw Mango saree, one with a pink and green border. Talk about colour blocking in Indian style. What we love is how simple she kept her look and let the silk saree do the talking. Raw Mango as a brand is one she is seen wearing often. And who said carrying off the saree can't look effortless?
For Shloka Mehta and Akash Ambani's engagement, Vidya chose a simple and yet ethereal white Anita Dongre saree with silver gota-pattiwork at the border. Statement earrings seem to be her statement; here she wore Raabta By Rahul pieces.
But one of our favourite looks was Vidya Balan at Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja's reception; in a classic white and gold handwoven Maheshwari saree by Shah Gaurang the actress looked absolutely charming.
Well, it will be safe to say that if there is anybody who has completely owned the art of rocking a saree, it is Vidya. Slaying in a saree, like a boss, Vidya! Keep the handloom sarees coming!
