Every Monday, as I crawl through my day, I wish that there were somewhere I was going to that weekend. You know, it doesn't even need to be anywhere grand, not a fancy vacation either. But by God, I'd want it to be something I can look forward to all week so that I have that feel-good to help me make it from Monday to Friday.
But as we all know, it's just NOT possible to travel somewhere every weekend: you only have the luxury of two days, you don't have Aladdin's treasure trove to spend, and not every destination you want to travel to is close enough to cover in a weekend.
So this weekend pulled off something I had read about recently. I took a staycation instead of a vacation.
Staycation? You aren't in on it already? Pfft! In simple words, a staycation is when you book a plush hotel/resort in your own city for the weekend to grant yourself the change of setting and some relaxation (away from your family, lol). You then take time for yourself by getting a massage, visiting local attractions, and simply chilling out. Even psychologically, once you check into the hotel, you pretty much feel like you are on a vacation, and not in your own city.
There are so many great hotels in most cities and on the outskirts that you will be spoilt for choice if you decide to pull this off. In fact, I'd advise you to book in advance and not last minute.
Staycations are only great if you just want to spend some time alone with your special someone. That really can be ANYBODY - best friend, mother, sister, partner. In our busy shedules when we don't get time for a lot of people and things, it is nice thing to take a weekend out and spend it reconnecting with someone you love all over again.
It is also a great way to rediscover your city, with an outlook of a visitor. And I bet there are so many places you have wanted to check out in your city but never had enough push to. Well, this is your chance.
Staycation people, get with it.
