While fitting into or being a specific size shouldn't be one's ultimate priority - being a healthy body weight and staying fit should definitely be. Let's be honest though - with the advent of winter and this biting cold, all we really feel like doing is sitting in our cozy beds and eating some comfort food. Getting in some physical activity and on top of that, having to think about eating food that'll fit right in with our weight loss goals is slightly less than comforting. However, and I think you'd agree with me - shaadi season has a weird way of putting all sorts of pressures on us. The clothes, the shoes, the jewellery, the hair, the makeup - that's a lot to think about it as it is - and this is when it's not even our own wedding! To add to this though, there's the added pressure (which most of us put on ourselves), to fit into those clothes and be in the absolute best shape of our lives.
Losing weight to the point of being unhealthy is, obviously, not something one should do. If you're looking to reach your ideal body weight, though, and struggle with not wanting to eat bland food, especially when you get those hunger pangs at night, you're reading the right article.
Midnight cravings are natural, but more common when you're depriving your body of the food that it needs. Eating too little, depriving your body completely of certain kinds of foods or not giving your body enough protein could be some reasons your body just won't allow you to sleep.
Don't compromise on your weight loss and fitness goals, but still eat food that tastes good and keeps your taste buds and tummy happy. Yes, it's possible. Here's a list of some midnight snacks that'll come in handy when you crave something sweet, salty or spicy.
1. Sweet Potato Chaat
This snack is perfect because it can be sweet, salty or spicy - whatever you like. Sweet potatoes, along with being low in calories, are also a great source of vitamin A and dietary fiber. For this delicious chaat, all you have to do is roast a few sweet potatoes, peel and chop into small cubes, add some mint chutney if you like or just sprinkle some red chilli powder, pinch of salt and crushed black pepper. If you're looking for a sweeter version, just eat them as they are. They taste great just by themselves too.
2. High Protein-Low Calorie Brownies
Now, now, we know, who's going to get into the hassle of baking something in the middle of the night? When you crave something sweet in the middle of the night, you want it ready to eat there and then. Looking for a healthy brownie recipe that suits you, searching for the right ingredients and then waiting for them to bake at that time is far from ideal. That's why we found you the perfect ready-to-eat healthy brownies! Not sure such a thing exists? Check out these brownies we found. You can order them online and if you're in Delhi, you're in luck because they even deliver the same day. They're high in protein and low in carbohydrates. Perfect for that sweet midnight craving!
3. Makhana (Fox Nuts)
Makhana, fox nuts or just lotus seeds are a great snack for in between your meals or midnight. They're low in sodium, cholesterol and fat and high in protein. They're also gluten free, making it ideal for those allergic to gluten. All you have to do is roast some makhanas in a small amount of desi ghee, sprinkle a handful of salt - and you're good to go. Alternatively, you can also buy them in the supermarket, where there are already a host of flavours available or online. They're the best thing to nibble on.
