This week, photo-sharing giant Instagram released their brand new app IGTV. If you're a frequent user of the social media app Instagram, you would have noticed a tiny purple and orange pop-up and wondered what's new. IGTV, which we assume is short for Instagram TV is made specifically for long-form videos short in the portrait mode. Instagram too supports videos but with a shorter, more restrictive length. On IGTV, videos can go on for up to 10 minutes (and for certain accounts, an hour). It comes as a separate app to be downloaded but can be navigated directly from Instagram. It is also the biggest move for the app since the launch of Insta Stories in 2016.
Much akin to YouTube, IGTV is made for longer videos but specifically those shot vertically, the natural way in which one holds their phone. So far, no updates about filters or text are available on the app so it is posted as found in your phone library. With this, creators can create easily and naturally for an unfiltered look into their lives. To make the most of IGTV, try using the app in these ways.
1. Vlog
Always fancied yourself a vlogger but never wanted to jump through the hoops of editing and captioning? Then try recording a video on portrait mode on your phone and posting it directly on IGTV. The phone will record comfortably in this position and make it easy to carry wherever you go.
2. Makeup Tutorials
Are you an aspiring beauty blogger or influencer? Then IGTV might be the right place for you. Prop your phone up vertically and hit the red button to record your daily makeup looks or beauty tips in action and directly upload. The video length will allow for more details than as on Instagram.
