Apart from a place where you get some seriously good alcohol, a bar is a great place to meet people. No, we don't mean meet people for the purpose of dating them but also befriending them. There are countless times, especially in the bar culture that is building up in India now, that bar banter turns to some really fun conversations which then leads to some great friendships. Obviously, Bollywood would want us to believe that some of the best love stories begin at the bar but let's not get too excited.
Let us start with some easy peasy steps as to how to be friendly at a bar, meet new people and make friends.
When someone comes and asks you if they can join your table, say yes. Or when someone tries to start a conversation with you, be receptive and open to listening to what they have to say. That is the first step to making new friends at any place, not just a bar.
Keep the conversation light
When talking to new people who you don't know, steer clear of heavy subjects (read politics). Try to find subjects that are of common interests and go from there. Share funny stories, experiences, talk about the places and other cafes you guys have individually been to; there is a whole array of things for you to talk about.
Don't be scared to approach a group
If you are passing by and you hear an interesting snippet of someone's conversation and would love to contribute something, don't hesitate. Pipe in, see how the group responds to you and take it from there. If all goes well, you can simply ask them if they mind you joining their table.
