When you think of global superstars from India, you instantly think of Aishwarya Rai. Yes, there were many supermodels and actors who made their way West much before Aishwarya did but it's still hard to find an actress with global renown and relevance like hers. The 2023 Met Gala took place at New York's Metropolitan Museum Of Art earlier this week, at which, Bollywood actress Alia Bhatt finally made her debut. Alia wore a heavily pearl embellished Prabal Gurung gown and stayed close to the designer throughout her walk across the famed Met steps. However, what might have come as a damp squib was the fact that international paparazzi mistook her for Aishwarya Rai. In a video, a photographer called out to her to capture the right angle by saying, "Aishwarya, this way." Oh well. It was her first Met Gala so they'll probably recognize her the next time around.

More and more Indian celebrities have been making their way to the Met Gala in recent years. While Deepika Padukone , Isha Ambani and Priyanka Chopra made their debuts in 2017 and have attended frequently since then, Natasha Poonawalla first attended the event in 2018.
