After a blissful few months of summer break comes dreadful June; not just for the gloomy monsoons but also for results. If April and May are holiday season, June is result month. Across ages, boards and grades, marks are announced and high scorers are splashed all over the news. With the cut-offs reaching unimaginable highs each season and pressure mounting further, it can be an immensely demotivating time if you haven't fared as well as the rest or as much as you expected. During this crucial time, it's important to keep these 4 important tips in mind.
1. It Isn't The End Of The World
It can feel like the entire world is crumbling around you and the future is bleak, but it really isn't. Bad marks are just that - bad marks. They may not enable you to get certain opportunities but in no way will your life completely shut down. In fact, it may motivate you to work harder for your next exam. There are plenty of courses and freelance jobs you could opt for to further your career. They may not be the traditional route but they will develop your skills.
2. They Don't Define You
So you didn't score well on an exam. That's okay. It doesn't mean that you aren't smart enough, aren't diligent or aren't hardworking. It just means that you didn't score well. Bad marks do not change the way you or anyone sees you. They don't make you, they are just marks. It also doesn't mean you're a failure who cannot do well at anything. The likes of Richard Branson and Quentin Tarantino were high school dropouts who went on to do phenomenally well in life. Take heart and remember that your scores don't make you.
3. Don't Keep Quiet
In all likelihood, you're feeling miserable, especially with the rounds of mithai being passed. And it's completely natural. Just don't let yourself be consumed in a sea of misery and hysteria. Reach out to a parent, friend or teacher to speak to them about how you're feeling because having a support system at a time like this is indubitably important.
4. Life Goes On
Comments
Scoring badly may hurt right now but it won't always feel like that. As you grow older, there will plenty more exams to study for so treat this as a stepping stone to focus and work even harder than you did before. Years from now, when you look back at exam results like these, you'll understand how miniscule they are in the grand scheme of things.
