We've seen kitchen hacks, recipes and social media challenges rule the Internet over the past year. The beauty realm is not too far away with its makeup tricks and challenges and we've got one that has recently caught our eye. The 2016 V/s 2021 Makeup Challenge that is making the rounds on the Internet and many beautizens simply can't get enough of it. The pandemic has surely shaped the way we look at makeup now and this new trend draws that sense of nostalgia when we saw the beauty industry peak and how it has drastically changed in just a span of 5 years. In this challenge, you draw a side-by-side comparison of the makeup look we did earlier - blocky eyebrows, baking using loose powder, heavy concealer, excessive contour and overdrawn lips.

Our approach to makeup has clearly changed with dewy makeup and 'skinminimalism' being the front runners of the trend. Botched up eyebrows have given way to feathery bushy brows, matte foundations for sheer ones and creamy cheek tints are our new BFFs. Not far away from home, Alaya Furniturewala too jumped on this beauty challenge and showed the stark difference a matter of years has made with her makeup choices. For her, a heavy base, dark kohl-rimmed eyes and a dramatic red lips completed her daily looks which is a lot different from what she goes for now. She opts for natural eyebrows, a sheer foundation and a hint of blush for her looks even at the red carpet in 2021 and we couldn't be happier.

We have inclined ourselves with a more naturalistic approach to makeup in the past year. Not just makeup but our love for AR filters also creates unrealistic images defeating the purpose of going au naturale. Shanaya Kapoor too shows us her filtered and natural side and obvious difference the feature makes. Large lined eyes, fluttery lashes, a highlighted tan and an unrealistically puckered pout as against her snow white blemish-free skin and naturally pink lips that we'll always go for in a heartbeat.
This social media trend may be a short lived challenge but it sure draws upon everything a matter of years can change even in the beauty sphere. All we can say is that we couldn't be happier knowing that we won't have to end up spending exorbitantly on expensive makeup for sure now!
