Radhika Apte: "It's Too Much Pressure To Get Dressed Up For The Gym Or Airport"

From the moment Radhika Apte set foot in Bollywood, it was clear she was a class apart. Her talent always spoke for itself, as did her understated style. She stole the spotlight for her roles in Lust Stories and Sacred Games and was even nominated for an Emmy award for the former. Now, the actress is letting her sartorial tastes do the talking as she joins hands with fashion brand IS.U. Radhika Apte spoke to Swirlster about her fashion choices, brand association and celebrity style she cannot get enough of.

Swirlster: What is your personal style like?

Radhika Apte: Simple and minimalistic is how I would describe my style. I love neutral colors and I am not too fond of too much color. I love polka dots, midi skirts and pantsuits. My outfits are either very well-fittest or very loosely fitted!

Swirlster: Tell us about your collaboration with IS.U

Radhika Apte: When I met the IS.U team, I knew it was the kind of brand I would like to collaborate with. Its ideologies are what I really liked. Society's ridiculous expectations that women should have perfect bodies and fit in all kinds of clothes like a glove is too much. When the team came up with designing outfits for all Indian body types, I knew had to associate with them.

Swirlster: Who would you say are the best dressed women in Bollywood and Hollywood today?

Radhika Apte: In Bollywood, I really like Deepika Padukone's outfits. I also like how Kangana Ranaut carries her outfits. In Hollywood, I do love what Tilda Swinton wears.

Swirlster: What are your thoughts on the airport and gym-style trend in Bollywood today?

Radhika Apte: I honestly feel it's too much pressure to get dressed up for the gym or for the airport. I like to be comfortable yet look good. I really don't think I want to be a part of it. I think it's enough effort to look good at the events we attend and for work. We have to be in front of the mirror to get ready and decide what to wear at work. I can't take a lot of time in my day to decide what to wear.

Swirlster: What made you collaborate with IS.U and how is it different from other brands?

Radhika Apte: My collaboration with IS.U aims to empower women to be the best version of themselves by creating styles that are contemporary, millennial and unique to the Indian body type; pioneering a huge step forward in supporting body positivity, self-love and acceptance for the 'all-inclusive' Indian woman. The brand has created styles that fit effortlessly on the unique Indian body type. The team has invested 9 months in getting the shape and measurements right; that's pretty much like birthing a new size standard. This was what sets it apart.

Swirlster: Which is your favorite piece from the collection?

Radhika Apte: There is this really pretty printed midi skirt with a slit in green and white. I had paired it with a top which had tiny polka dots on them. I really loved the combination, I think that was my favorite.

Swirlster: Best fashion the advice you've received

Radhika Apte: The best fashion advice I have received is if you feel good, you look good!
