British supermodel, actress and media personality Naomi Campbell is on a journey yet again. It seems as though the No Filter With Naomi star has been on quite an exploratory ride discovering the nooks and corners of the Island of Goree in Senegal. Naomi recently posted a story on her Instagram handle, which featured a silhouette image of her being clicked in one of the historical museums on the Goree Island in Senegal, West Africa.

Goree is a rather small island located off the coast of Dakar in Senegal, West Africa. The narrow streets of the locale are lined with erstwhile colonial buildings that are now memorials and museums.
The island was ruled in succession by the Portuguese, Dutch, English and French imperial powers and thus, its architecture represents the heritage of the bygone era spanning from the 15th to 19th centuries.

It is located inside the House of Slaves which again is a museum on the island. The Door of No Return served as the final exit point of the slaves from Africa during the Atlantic slave trade.
The Island of Goree is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since the year 1978. It has been designated a historical site as early as 1944 with safeguarding measures undertaken in the colonial era starting 1951. It was also inscribed on the national heritage list in the years 1975.

The Henriette Bathily Women's Museum on the island surrounded by kilometres of the Atlantic ocean exhibits the role of women in the West African society of the time.
The Island of Goree now functions as a pilgrimage site for the African people and a point of contact between the Western world and Africa.
