Mindy Kaling celebrated her 44th birthday recently and it was an especially treasured one, all thanks to her kids. Mother to 5-year-old Katherine Swati and 2-year-old Spencer Avu, the multi-faceted Hollywood personality took to Instagram to thank her followers for the birthday love and also shared why it was a particularly special milestone for her. In the photo, Mindy is captured walking with a tote on her shoulder, while both her son and daughter trail her, dragging their colourful strolleys. Mindy speaks about how important her kids are to her, even though she wasn't particularly a "kid person". She said that one fine day it clicked and she then "wanted kids with such intense certainty".
The Kaling children transformed her life in such a way that, all she aims to stay her happiest and healthiest for them, even though she admits to being "impatient" and "materialistic". Kaling says in her caption, "Now I'm just trying to be present for them (hard for me! I'm impatient!), being up for anything (again hard for me, I am not whimsical!), and stay healthy for these two guys (ALSO hard! I just want to eat cheesesteaks every meal in front of the TV) for until I'm an old gray skeleton they're like "mom, you gotta go".
All credits to her kids though because Mindy's doctor's signed her bill of good health this year and she credits them as motivation for staying healthy and happy. She continued in the caption, "My doctor told me that this year I was the healthiest I've been in years. That's a pretty damn good gift, right? I'm usually kind of low-level anxious, so I'm just gonna take one minute on my birthday to acknowledge that I am happy. Man, there are ups and downs in this life!! But my ups seem to be the most important ones right now. Thanks for my birthday love." It wouldn't be the Mindy we adore if she didn't sign off her heartfelt message with a laugh. Which is where she said, "Also maybe I will buy myself that trendy Dior bag that looks like a kidney bean."
Mindy Kaling has been on a transformative journey as far as her lifestyle is concerned, with positive changes to her diet and exercise regime. She made a "cheaty version" of a green smoothie which included ingredients like spinach, banana and lemon.
While she has spoken about hiking and walking being a major part of her fitness regime, there was the time she even tried her hand at boxing, which she captioned, "NGL, this exhausted me".
