International Yoga Day is celebrated all across the globe on the 21st of June. For those who are unfamiliar with what Yoga actually is, Yoga is a group of physical, mental, and spiritual practices or disciplines which are meant to align the mind, body, and soul. While the roots of yoga have been found in ancient India, yoga is widely practised all over the world with a few changes and what could be considered upgrades. So who in B-town is all about Yoga? From Alia Bhatt to Shilpa Shetty, here is our shortlist of celebrities who incorporate this ancient practice into their workouts and post regular updates about their related fitness goals on social media. We explore their reasons for pursuing the exercise in preparation for the day that celebrates this ancient practice.
Shilpa Shetty is established as one of the fittest actresses in the county. She often shares key moments from yoga sessions and sets fitness goals for followers to map. Sharing a post, she captioned her picture as 'Practicing the Prasarita Padottanasana Pratirupam stretches the hamstrings, calves, glutes, and lower back. It also improves hip-joint flexibility. Giving the body that much-needed stretch early in the day rejuvenates you. However, people suffering from slip-disc, high blood pressure, vertigo, and migraines should avoid this pose. Malaika Arora is yet another Bollywood actress who can be directly linked to Yoga. Not only does she swear by Yoga as her own workout activity but she is also a yoga trainer who encourages her fans to practise it. It's no secret now how she keeps so fit. In one of her Yoga videos, she was captured performing a yoga pose to perfect. She captioned it, 'The pose I am practising is a variation of a powerful yoga asana, Chakki Chalanasana. This pose, tones and strengthens the abdominal muscles, improves digestion, promotes mental clarity, and relieves stress.
Kareena Kapoor also is known to have an attachment to exercising and especially practising yoga. She shares her videos and workouts with her fans occasionally. The caption on her posts tells us exactly how she manages to stick to her yoga fitness routine. "When your yoga instructor follows you on Instagram, you know it's time to say bye to the biryani and halwa."
Alia Bhatt occasionally shares videos of her Yoga sessions at home and there are plenty to pick from. The videos are no doubt adorable and inspire her fans to take up the practice too. Here's one of hers wishing her fans Happy Yoga Day two years ago.
We are well aware of how Anushka Sharma loves staying fit and works out regularly. The actress is so connected to yoga that she even practised it during her pregnancy, under the supervision of her yoga instructor, of course. A part of her caption reads, "As yoga is a big part of my life, my doctor recommended that I can do all such asanas that I was doing before I was pregnant( after a certain stage)barring twists & extreme forward bends, but of course with the appropriate and required support. For the Shirshasana, which I have been doing for many years, I ensured that I used the wall for support and also my very able husband supporting me balance, to be extra safe. This was also done under the supervision of my yoga teacher @eefa_shrof who was virtually with me through this session. I'm so glad I could continue my practice through my pregnancy."

Like her sister, Shamita Shetty is also a yoga enthusiast and is often seen doing workouts alone or with Shilpa. In one of the posts, she expained her big 'why' for Yoga, 'Mobility is the ability of a joint, or a combination of joints, muscles, tendons, and ligaments, to move actively through a complete range of motion, without resistance, restriction, or pain. Rakul Preet Sigh is another well-known fan of Yoga. Her Yoga Trainer posted a video with this caption which sheds insight into how important Yoga is for Rakul, "A girls lucky when she's got a @rakulpreet by her side. Happy birthday to my beauty and one of my biggest inspirations, you are a star in the truest sense. Can't wait to animal FLOW with you again."
