
If you love hosting house parties then you will agree when we say that having a range of delectable dips on the menu can really be a lifesaver. They can be made to include different flavours to complement your spread of appetisers and even munchies by adding some spice, pungency, sweetness, richness or tangy notes. And if you do them right, you are sure to win praises from all your guests. Dips are easy to whip up, requiring only a handful of ingredients and a little effort. You can play around with various flavours to arrive at what works best for you.
However, if you are short on time, and need quick dip recipes, then we have got your back. Here are four of our favourite dip recipes that are always a bit hit and the best part is that they are unbelievably easy to make:
1. Hung curd and dill
A hung curd dip is not only popular with weight watchers but only makes for a great side to team with fritters, vegetable crudite and wafers. Here's what you need:
400 gram curd
5-6 cloves garlic
Few sprigs of chopped dill
Salt and pepper to taste
Method: place the curd in a cloth bag and hang it for 20-30 minutes till the water drains out. Whip is lightly and then add the remaining ingredients and mix well. Keep chilled until serving time.

2. Cream cheese and caramelised onions
This is really a match made in heaven, and you only need this two ingredients to make it. It goes well with nachos, wafers and even as toppings.
200 gram cream cheese
4 medium onions, finely sliced
Method: Heat oil in a pan and add a spoon of brown sugar. Let it bubble and immediately add the onions. Keep frying on low flame until it turns brown. Cool. In a bowl, lightly whisk the cream cheese and then mix in the onions. Check seasoning and serve.
3. Sweet and spicy tomato dip
How can we miss out on tomatoes when it comes to making a dip? It's the perfect ingredient to play around with. Make this sweet and spicy dip with tomatoes that will go well with kebabs, nuggets and wafers.
4 big tomatoes, chopped
2 tablespoon jaggery
1 tsp chilli powder
Salt to taste
Method: Heat oil in a pan and fry the tomatoes until pulpy. Add the remaining ingredients and cook to thicken it. Serve warm.
4. Red pepper and walnut dip
This dip works great to add some zing to starters. You can serve it with mini rolls and canapes and crostinis.
3 red bell peppers
1 cup walnuts, chopped
1/2 tsp red chilli flakes
1/2 tsp cumin powder
3-4 cloves garlic
1 tsp lemon juice
Salt to taste
Method: Smear the peppers with a little oil and roast in the oven for 10 minutes. Chop and place in the blender along with the remaining ingredients (except lemon juice) and blend. Check seasoning and finish with the lemon juice before serving.
