Kim Kardashian Makes Fashion History At The MET Gala 2022 In Marilyn Monroe's Iconic Gown

When Kim Kardashian arrives on the red carpet, you can bet it's going to make a statement; which was the case at the MET Gala 2022. While everyone chose sparkling details and flouncy gowns, Kim went ahead and wore a piece of fashion history. The theme of the event was 'In America: An Anthology Of Fashion" and Kim Kardashian went a step ahead to make it an appearance like no other. Hollywood starlet Marilyn Monroe may have found fame in the 50s but has since gone down as a fashion icon. So for her to be channeled on the 2022 MET Gala red carpet with an American theme makes perfect sense. The media mogul did that and more.

Kim Kardashian walked the steps of the event wearing Marilyn Monroe's original dress which was designed by Jean Louis. One of the vintage actress' most historical fashion choices, Marilyn wore the very same dress in 1962 to sing "Happy Birthday, Mr. President" to John F. Kennedy for his 45th birthday at Madison Square Garden. Back in 1999, it was dubbed the 'most expensive dress' when it was sold at an auction for $1.26 million and later, $4.6 million when it was sold again in 2016.

Kim struck a pose in the crystal-embellished sleeveless sheer dress which fitted her form gorgeously. Over it, she wore a white fur throw just like Marilyn Monroe originally did. She also paid homage to Marilyn's blonde tresses by wearing her hair in a bleached blonde bun. Kim went with a neutral makeup look and dangling stone earrings. While naked dresses are a red carpet staple today, back in the 60s that wasn't the case, which made Marilyn's ensemble so legendary. In her caption, Kim wrote, "I am so honored to be wearing the iconic dress that Marilyn Monroe wore in 1962 to sing "Happy Birthday" to President John F. Kennedy. It is a stunning skintight gown adorned with more than 6,000 hand-sewn crystals by costumier Jean Louis."
