It isn't very often that the conversation veers towards menstruation. As a society, most are still inclined to discuss periods in hushed tones. But Janhvi Kapoor is here to shake things up and aren't we glad for it. The Bollywood star has been announced as the brand ambassador of Paree Sanitary Pads and as part of her new role, she's talking about everything to do with periods. From the importance of menstrual hygiene awareness to her PMS tips, nothing is off-limits for Janhvi Kapoor as she speaks to NDTV Swirlster.
NDTV Swirlster: Why was associating with Paree Sanitary Pads important to you?
Janhvi Kapoor: This association is very close to my heart as it has given me an opportunity to reach out to millions of young girls and encourage them to go ahead and live their life without periods holding them back. Also, since the start of my career I have always supported Indian brands and it gives me pride to be a part of their journey. I look forward to this exciting partnership with Paree Sanitary Pads.
NDTV Swirlster: How important is it to spread awareness about menstrual hygiene?
Janhvi Kapoor: I believe, having an open conversation about menstrual hygiene is extremely important to spread awareness around this subject. It's high time that we speak about feminine hygiene and care more freely as I think that's the first step in making sanitary pad and feminine care accessible to a larger number of women in our country. Lack of access to feminine hygiene products during girls' menstruation cycle can hinder a girl from reaching her potential or performing at her optimum. Periods are a completely natural and healthy process in our body, and I strongly advocate that there is a need to encourage educational conversation around it for sure.
NDTV Swirlster: What myths would you like to be busted about periods?
Janhvi Kapoor: Culturally in the many parts of India, periods are still considered to be impure due to which girls are not allowed to participate in the day-to-day chores of life. I believe, there's no reason for menstruation being pure or impure. It's just a natural and healthy process of our body. To eradicate such beliefs it is extremely important to create awareness programs and promote educational conversations around menstrual hygiene.
NDTV Swirlster: How does Paree make women's periods so much easier for them?
Janhvi Kapoor: Paree Sanitary Pads is not just a brand that operates in the space of women's hygiene products. It is, in fact, a brand that aims to create awareness and elevate the way society converses on women's hygiene and period issues. I love the progressive take that the brand has in encouraging women to make menstrual health and hygiene a priority. They understand the many avatars of the modern Indian woman and provide them with products as per her needs.
NDTV Swirlster: What do you wish everyone knew about menstrual hygiene?
Janhvi Kapoor: There isn't much honest conversation around feminine hygiene. I wish there was more awareness about how menstruation affects woman's physical as well as mental health. During the entire cycle, there is an element of discomfort and we need the right and suitable products that will make periods as comfortable as possible. I believe it should be advertised and spoken about more than any other product because it needs to reach a wider audience so that they can make an educated choice.Comments
