Samantha Ruth Prabhu has been vocal about her autoimmune condition Myositis. Diagnosed in 2022, she has been unafraid of sharing the struggles of dealing with the disease and spreading awareness to the masses. In her debut health podcast, the actress talked about the challenging journey and how she managed it. Calling it a “harrowing experience” Samantha urged everyone to be rather “safe than sorry” as the disease had a lifelong impact. She attempted to debunk myths that the autoimmune condition could not affect those who were healthy, followed a nutritious diet, and were born with good genes. “I worked out, I woke up early, I laughed a lot, I ate healthy, I worked out like crazy,” she said before asserting that Myositis could happen to anyone.

Samantha's co-host Akhlesh cited that the disease catches up on people quietly as it takes a long period of “buildup” within the body. “When the body reaches the threshold of the buildup, it goes into something called the threat response,” he said. The aftermath is when the “immune system attacks the healthy cells.” Modern lifestyles and high stress levels are the major risk factors since the body fails to differentiate between an “actual threat and perceived threat.”
Recalling the night before waking up to the disease, Samantha revealed that she was at peace with herself, and felt calmer after returning from a trip to Mumbai with her friend and manager Himank. “I remember telling him that finally, I feel calm. I haven't felt a little relaxed in a very long time. And I finally feel I can breathe and I can go to sleep,” she said. Samantha was determined to resume her work commitments with renewed energy and “be the best”, only to wake up the next morning with the condition.
The takeaways of preventing the issue as highlighted by Samantha's co-host were: to eat a clean diet, drink filtered water, use clean personal hygiene products, manage daily stress, and engage in any type of exercise.
