The renowned Anamika Khanna is the legendary name behind multiple highlights of the Indian fashion industry. They include being the first Indian woman to showcase a collection at Paris Fashion Week and popularising the contemporary dhoti pant. Anamika Khanna has also featured in the prestigious Business Of Fashion 500 list and graced the Lakme Fashion Week finale runway multiple times over besides being a favourite of Bollywood style icon Sonam Kapoor. The 15th Blenders Pride Fashion Tour that took place earlier this year was yet another feather in her cap. NDTV Swirlster spoke to the Anamika Khanna about trends to come and the celebrity she'd love to dress.
"We Wanted To Create Something Cooler And Edgier"
Menswear By AK had been in the offing for a long time coming. "We wanted to create something that didn't exist in the Indian market; something cooler and edgier. We wanted to do fine embroidery for weddings and also create a young line which the younger generation of today would associate with," she says of the line and continues, "My boys are the ones who launched the mens line. It's great to see young energy bring that vibe to the brand."
"What One Wears Is Very Personal"
Fashion spotted on the runway may not always be the most realistic in our daily lives. On asking Anamika about wearable trend for the season of summer to come, she replies, "What one wears is very personal to the individual. One trend is statement dressing. Clothing is getting bolder and everyone wants to make a statement today."
"Paris Fashion Week Was Important To Me"
We asked Anamika Khanna which event has been the most memorable one for her and she answered, "Gosh! It has been a long journey and there have been so many events that have been extremely memorable. It has to be being a part of Paris Fashion Week at a time when I was one of the first few people doing so was very important for me." And a celebrity she'd love to dress up? "Madonna!," chimes the designer.
